Ham Radio - HB9SQX
Ham radio joins two of my hobbies: my addiction to communication technologies with the passion to communicate with people around the globe. On this page, I present selected applications of ham radio.
APRS: Automatic Position Report System
More and more stations, especially mobile stations, are equipped with a GPS receiver for exact positioning. Connected to the sender, these stations report their position via radio using a well defined protocol. An increasing number of ham radio stations interconnected via the internet gather and redistribute these informations in real-time to anyone interested.
Together with position reports, other current informations become available this way: weather data, traffic reports and many more.
The map below shows real-time information located in Switzerland.
